What is early gender reveal DNA testing?
Early gender reveal DNA testing uses cell-free fetal DNA circulating in the mother's bloodstream to determine the biological sex of the baby. It is completely non-invasive and safe for both mother and baby.
How early can you test?
You can test as early as 6 weeks gestation. However we recommend waiting until at least 8 weeks for the most reliable results as the concentration of fetal DNA in the mother's blood increases as the pregnancy progresses.
How does the test work?
A small blood sample is collected from the mother via a simple finger prick
The sample is analysed for the presence of Y chromosome DNA
If Y chromosome DNA is detected the baby is male
If no Y chromosome DNA is detected the baby is female
How accurate is it?
At 8 weeks or later our early gender reveal test is 99.9% accurate. Testing before 8 weeks carries a slightly higher risk of an inconclusive result due to lower fetal DNA concentration.
Is it safe?
Yes. The test only requires a blood sample from the mother. There is no risk to the baby whatsoever. It is entirely different from invasive procedures such as amniocentesis.
